Road leading to Subukia Shrine

What is Shrine?

Shrine – is a holy or sacred place, which is dedicated to a specific, martyr, saint, or similar figure of awe and respect, at which they are venerated or worshipped. Shrines often contain relics, or other such objects associated with the figure being venerated. Shrines are found in many of the world's religions, including Christianity.

In the Roman Catholic Code of Canon law, (canons 1230 and 1231) "The term “shrine” means a church or other sacred place which, with the approval of the local Ordinary, is by reason of special devotion frequented by the faithful as pilgrims. For a shrine to be described as national, the approval of the Episcopal Conference is necessary. For it to be described as international, the approval of the Holy See is required."

Shrines were always centered on some image of Christ or a saint - for instance, a statue, painting, mural or mosaic.

The shrine in Subukia is build around the stature of Our Lady of Subukia, Mother of God. The Shrine belongs and is approved by The Kenya Episcopal Conference, so it is a National Shrine of Mary Mother of God.

I.                  The Subukia Shrine is mainly:

1.      a place of Reconciliation between GOD and MAN

2.      a place of Reconciliation between NATIONS

3.      a place of Reconciliation between TRIBES

4.      a place of Reconciliation between GENDER

5.      a place of Reconciliation between RELIGIOUS

6.      a place of Reconciliation between DENOMINATIONS

7.      a place of Reconciliation between FAMILIES

8.      a place of Reconciliation between MEMBERS of the families

9.      a place of Reconciliation between ME and GOD

NB: At the Subukia Shrine, Reconciliation process begins at the structure of the ‘Way of Light’

II.                Subukia Shrine is a place of RENEWAL of all those who have been BABTIZED of:

        WATER

        SPIRIT

        DESIRE to follow CHRIST

III.             Subukia Shrine is a place of SELF-DENIAL for the sake of EMBRACING Christ more in the sacrament of EUCHARIST (1Cor. 11:17-32)

For the above reasons, there are in Subukia Shrine, “THREE WAYS” in which we follow Jesus to where he went to prepare a PLACE for us (Jn. 14:1-6). The three ways leads us to Christ who said: “I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE:

a.       The WAY of Jesus is HIS SUFFERING and DEATH on the cross of which the Bible says: “In other words, God in Christ was reconciling the world to himself, not holding men’s faults against them, and he has entrusted to us the news that they are reconciled. So we are ambassadors for Christ; it is as though God were appealing through us, and the appeal that we make in Christ’s name is: be reconciled to God(2 Cor. 5:19-20).

b.      The truth of Jesus is BABTISM of which the Bible says:

(I) “I tell you the TRUTH, unless a man is born through water and the spirit, he can not enter the kingdom of God: what is born of the flesh is flesh; what is born of the spirit is spirit.” (Jn. 3:3-6)

(ii) “And you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. All baptized in Christ, you have all clothed yourselves in Christ, and there are no more distinctions between Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female, but all of you are one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26-28).

Concerning BAPTISM the book of The Village of Mary Mother of God says; “It soon became obvious that the Village of Mary in Subukia is a place of great national potential in bringing Kenyans into one Family, under our Mother Mary. And as she is the Mother of all the baptized, not just of Catholics, many non-Catholics have been coming here also, to deepen their religious beliefs”. (Page 27,2nd paragraph).

NB: There is no person under the sun, who is as he or she would have liked to be. What and how every man is, is what God wanted him or her to be. Therefore anyone who discriminates against another person, not only that he or she offends the person in question, but he or she directly offends God Himself who created him or her in the way he or she is.

c.        The life of Jesus is the EUCHARIST of which the Bible says: “I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you. Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day” (Jn. 6:53-54).

Jesus invites those who wants to voluntarily follow him to DENY themselves and to carry their CROSSES everyday (Lk. 9:23) and put their burdens on HIM (Mt. 11:28).

NB: To deny oneself is:       - To deny his or her COLOUR

                                                - To deny his or her LANGUAGE

                                                - To deny his or her SEX
